Following the disappointment of their National Colts Cup exit, the Colts group were keen to make amends by winning their regional cup competition. This was never going to be a straightforward task however, against a very good Cambridge side at the infamous Volac Park. The difficulty and magnitude of this task was only increased after Cambridge 1st XV secured promotion to The Championship less than 24 hours before and as such, a buoyant and partisan crowd awaited the Bury Boys last Sunday. It's safe to say however, they more than lived up to the occasion... as they have done all season.

After a cagey and tense affair, the final score was 15-15. However, due to Bury having a superior try count they were crowned champions of the Eastern Counties.

For the neutral, it was a fantastic occasion and Cambridge proved why they too are a premier youth side in the region. However, for those with Bury tinted glasses on, it will have been a delight to see this outstanding group get just reward for what has been an amazing season of entertainment, history and commitment.

Congratulations to the Colts group of 2022/2023 for this achievement and for everything else you have accomplished this season. You will be remembered for many years to come as one of the great Bury Colts teams - on and off of the rugby field.
