Bury Under 14's host Stowmarket in their 1st County Cup Fixture of the Season

Richard Barnes14 Jan 2019 - 09:27

Bury under 14's but on an impressive performance against a well organised Stowmarket side in the County Cup.

On a windy day Bury overcame a determined Stowmarket side with a disciplined team performance. Rhys Jones had to go off after an early knock to be replaced by Josh Barnes. Playing in to the wind in the first half Bury finally broke the deadlock following great work by Josh Bullingham who steamed through to score under the posts, which was converted by Stuey. This score was quickly followed by a try from Scott who smashed through from close range, again converted by Stuey. Stowmarket replied with good pressure earning them a penalty that was well taken to put some points on the board.Bury did not let up though, Bully again scoring after a tremendous show and go, with Stuey converting. This was followed by a great try from Connor who charged through the middle showing great pace to touch down under the posts, with Stuey slotting the extras. Josh Wallis then crashed over, with that try being converted to put Bury in a good position at half time. Stowmarket started the second half much the stronger of the two teams and following sustained pressure and desperate Bury defence Stowmarket scored a well deserved try which was converted. The second half was a much closer affair and it was not until the end that Bury wrestled the initiative back with an excellent try from Adam Harwood-Hughes, with Bully rounding off a great afternoon with his hat-trick try, both tries being converted. Best wishes from all for a speedy recovery to Freddie Bayne who was unlucky enough to break a collar bone in the warm up. Final score Bury 49 - Stowmarket 10
