Another bright Sunday morning and great conditions for a game of rugby. The match started evenly with some competitive rucking from both sides. Bury had the edge and were able to get their back line into the game with some strong running from Josh Bullingham and some driving runs from Scott at No 8 off the back of the scrum. In one of these attacks Josh Bullingham's powered over the line with some great hand offs on the way. Bury lead was short lived as Diss using their massive No3 as a battering ram, ploughed his way through the Bury defence.
Bury’s rucking continued to secure the ball with some more strong running ran over three quick tries with a further two to Josh and one to Scott. Diss continued to be competitive playing to their strengths with some solid play from their large forwards and using their speedy wingers. The Bury defence was good but before half time Diss scored another try...four tries to two at halftime.
The second half continued in a similar vein with Josh running in his fourth try of the day. Bury continued to struggle to stop the Diss’ big forwards although to be honest most of the Bury Dads were quite pleased they were on the sidelines! To the boys credit their tackling remained strong and there was no repeat of the first Diss try. The game became scrappy and it’s clear we need to practice our line out play. Diss using their speedy winger again ran in a final try as the Bury defence tired and were slow to step up. Final score Bury 25 Diss 15, an enjoyable competitive game of rugby.....well done Bury boys!!! And a special thanks to Paul who came over to Referee at short notice!
PS - Thanks for the guest Match Reporter of the day Tom B, a great account of the game!
