The Salver Cup semi-final match between Southwold and Bury St Edmunds U18’s concluded in a defeat for the Bury Boys. Despite our boys demonstrating outstanding effort and some notable individual performances, an early onslaught of tries from Southwold proved insurmountable against the challenging wind conditions on The Common... and we all know what that can be like!

So, here ends the exciting cup run of the U18’s plate squad, but they should hold their heads high. They have performed admirably through the season with some great games played in fantastic spirit.

There is no doubt that running two squads during the respective cup competitions has been challenging. However, with the bigger picture in mind; all players have enjoyed a great amount of game time, which is paramount for these players at this important developmental time. To that end, we have achieved what we set out to do, with a great bunch of lads -many of which will be around the U18’s squad next year, so once again, there is plenty to build on.

The last four fixture for our cup squad however, yielded a different outcome. The Bury Boys came out on top of a thrilling, close and nervy affair at The Haberden, against local rivals Colchester, 45 - 31.

Now, the Bury Boys are one win away from back to back Eastern Counties Cup titles. To do so, they will need to overcome Shelford - at Shelford - on Sunday.

The Cambridgeshire side, won their semi-final in a very close game against Cambridge. Sunday promises to be another absolute thriller.

I am so proud of this fantastic achievement by our Bury Boys.
2 finals on the spin, in this competition is not mean feat and it is absolute testament to the hard work and dedication of al involved. A special mention must go to the coaching staff; lead by Samir Kharbouch and Will Kingston, supported by George Cain and Chris Winn. As well as, of course, the hard work put in week in week out by the players.

The kick off time on Sunday is to be confirmed, but we hope that many of the #haberdenfaithful will make the short trip to Cambridgshire to give our boys every help in going back to back.

As we did last season, we are looking to put on supporters coaches to encourage as many to travel as possible. However, this will depend on interest. More information on this will follow very soon.
