Join our winning team at Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club! We're thrilled to present a fantastic opportunity for a Grounds Person to contribute to the upkeep of our esteemed facilities.

Job Title: Grounds Person
Salary: £24,000 starting
Hours: 38 hours per week, Monday to Thursday: 08:00 - 17:00 (with lunch break from 12:00 - 13:00), Friday: 08:00 - 14:00. Flexible hours available to accommodate personal or domestic needs.
Annual Leave: Minimum 20 days per annum, plus all bank holidays

The job holder will receive ongoing training, mentoring and support.

Location: Bury St Edmunds RUFC, Southgate Green, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

About Us: Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club stands as the premier Rugby facility in the East of England, boasting a diverse range of teams from semi-professional to minis, and over 4000 members. Our facilities include 4 full-size grass pitches, 1 all-weather pitch, along with complementary amenities such as changing rooms and ample parking.

Role Overview:
As a member of our dedicated team, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the club's grounds and site. Your responsibilities will include:

  • General maintenance tasks such as grass cutting, hedge trimming, and planting.
  • Ensuring sports pitches are properly marked and synthetic surfaces are well-kept.
  • Operation of various tools and equipment including ride-on mowers and tractors.
  • Use of PTO operated equipment including mowing deck and verti-drainer.
  • Oversight of equipment usage and maintenance.
  • Interpretation of plans, site preparation, soft and hard landscaping.
  • Providing guidance to volunteers and overseeing projects.

The successful candidate will have the following qualities:

Essential:

  • Highly motivated and able to work autonomously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to work within delegated authority.
  • Experience in commercial or amenity horticulture.
  • Good communication and liaison skills.
  • Ability to work to own initiative.
  • Good team ethos.
  • Outgoing personality and ability to mix with the general public.
  • Physical fitness to meet the demands of the role.

Desirable and/or a willingness to work towards the following professional attributes

  • Knowledge of fine turf surfaces
  • Understanding of the technical aspects of grounds maintenance, ie, specifications and health and safety requirements
  • Current driving licence( location dependent)
  • Possession of PA1 and PA6 Pesticide Application Certificates
  • Good plant knowledge
  • Horticultural qualification
  • Experience in Grounds Maintenance
