Match Day Charity Partner | St Nicholas Hospice Care

Will Affleck21 Jan - 12:59

On Saturday, we will welcome St Nicholas Hospice Care as our Match Day Charity Partner.

As a club rooted in community spirit, we’re committed to supporting causes of all shapes and sizes. While we continue to organise our own charity initiatives, this season we're aiming to open our doors even wider - offering local and national charities, clubs and organisations the chance to raise both funds and awareness through the energy and reach of match day rugby. On Saturday, we are incredibly proud to welcome St Nicholas Hospice Care as our Match Day Charity Partner.

St Nicholas Hospice Care is an organisation that we at Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club have proudly supported for a very long time and we are delighted that Lee Graham and his team are joining us on Saturday.

St Nicholas Hospice Care is a local charity, which strives for something better in the provision of high-quality, specialist palliative care, emotional and practical support, so that no-one in West Suffolk and Thetford has to face dying, death and grief alone.
St Nic’s supports thousands of local people. Hospice support is there not just for patients, but for their families and friends too, offering everything from specialist medical and bereavement care to practical help

We aim to provide the very best experiences for those facing dying, death and grief, with our actions and behaviours promoting the charity’s values of compassion, accountability, respect, and equity.

We provide care and support throughout West Suffolk and Thetford. This may be at our hospice site in Bury St Edmunds or wherever the person calls home, through our Community Team.

We also provide bereavement support for children and young people through our Nicky’s Way programme. This can be accessed by any child in West Suffolk or Thetford, whether or not the person that has died was cared for by the Hospice.

How much does it cost to run the Hospice? Where does the money come from?
It costs around £9.5 million a year to run our Hospice services. That’s equivalent to £26,000 per day. Even with statutory funding support, we face a daily shortfall of £18,000. This gap must be filled through fundraising, retail, legacies, and other income sources.

We’re totally reliant on the goodwill of our community to keep the Hospice running, by generously giving their money or their time as volunteers. On behalf of everyone we care for, we’re so grateful for the amazing support we receive.

Every penny raised for St Nic’s makes a difference to a person and those special to them facing dying, death and grief.

Our vision and mission

Please dig deep - together, we can make a meaningful difference.
