Here’s your preview of the weekend’s action, from Club Media Officer, Charlie Woodbridge.

Following a weekend of mainly postponed fixtures due to the snow and ice, there was one standout fixture. The Women’s 1st XV kickstarted their promotion campaign with a bang as they beat Shelford Ladies. The Bury Rugby family can look forward to a busy weekend in round 18 of the 2024/2025 season.

We have a great selection of rugby ahead, with almost all sides in action. You can expect a busy weekend at The Haberden, with three senior fixtures at home this weekend. However, the Women’s 1st XV has their most crucial game of the season in a battle for top of the league against Old Albanian II.

Our boys’ U13s (x2), U15s and U16s all have exciting fixtures to kickstart their 2025 campaigns. They face Bishop Stortford A, Mersea, Colchester and Ipswich respectively. It is a busy weekend among the age grades with the Vixens travelling to Ipswich RFC to play the eagles and the girls’ U14 playing West Walsham RFC.

The Colts kickstart round 1 of the National Colts Cup as they take a trip to Shelford. Richard Barnes has named a strong side showcasing all the Bury St Edmunds Colts talent in a squad full of rugby potential.

The Men’s 1st XV has their first fixture of 2025 as they look to make it 2/2 against newly promoted Oxford Harlequins. Last time out, it was a high scoring affair between the two at The Haberden earlier on in the season as the game finished 61-33 to the Bury boys.

Jacob ford has named a strong and experienced side to face Oxford Harlequins A notable name back on the teamsheet is club stalwart, Will Affleck.

The Women’s 1st XV look to continue their fine form after a narrow victory against Shelford Ladies. They face Old Albanian in a top of the league clash with Old Albanian II at The Haberden.

Head Coach, Liam Leeson, has named a largely unchanged side from his sides victory last weekend. However, Georgie Palmer comes in at scrumhalf for the injured Elise Richmond.

The Men’s 2nd XV make up the first game at The Haberden this weekend. Following their postponed fixture last weekend against Diss RFC due to the snow, they look to kickstart their 2025 as they host a strong Southwold side.

AJ Morgan has named a strong side, full of Bury St Edmunds youth talent ready to put on a showcase of rugby ability at The Haberden.

The Men’s 3rd XV and 4th XV have exciting fixtures against Cottenham Renegades and Harwich & Dovercourt II, with the 4s featuring at The Haberden. Coach, Scott Rannochan has named strong sides for both fixtures.

The Minis can enjoy a weekend of exciting rugby training as they look to perfect their craft and create the future of Bury St Edmunds rugby.
