Round 20 | 2024/2025

Alex Rowles24 Jan - 17:05

Here’s your preview of the weekend’s action, from Club Media Officer, Charlie Woodbridge.

Following a week of frustrating close games against tough opponents for most of the Bury Rugby sides, we have a brilliant weekend of rugby across the club this weekend.

We have no senior fixtures featuring at The Haberden this weekend. However, all senior fixtures are against local sides with the Men’s 1st XV travelling to Colchester for derby day.

Our boys’ u13s (x2) and U14s all have exciting fixtures against Haverhill B, Letchworth A and Saffron Walden respectively. Similarly, it’s a busy weekend in the girls’ section with the U12s, U14s and Vixens all travelling away to Hadleigh, Crusaders and Cambridge respectively.

The Colts can enjoy a rest weekend after a brilliant 33-14 cup win against Woodbridge.

See all fixtures here.

The Men’s 1st XV will be looking to get over that final game line after a 1 point less against an impressive Dorking last time out. They travel to Colchester for the derby day return fixture in what is set to be a tough encounter with a large Colchester crowd.

It certainly is going to be a cracker, with 300 guests booked in for the pre-match luncheon and the crowd expected to be backed. So, make sure you arrive early and wear your Bury St Edmunds colours to show support for your Bury boys on derby day.

Jacob Ford has named a largely unchanged side from last week’s narrow loss with only Tyler Russell coming in at second row for James Harrison and Trystan Andrews returning to the starting line-up to cover captain George Grigg-Pettitt who misses this fixture.

The Women’s 1st XV also has a derby day fixture as they travel to Sudbury to face an impressive Sudbury Sapphires side. Make sure to get down to Sudbury Sunday afternoon to show our Bury Women the support they deserve.

Head Coach, Liam Leeson has named a strong side full of county representatives as they push for promotion in this second half of the season.

The Men’s 2nd XV look to bounce back from a narrow loss as they ran an impressive Newmarket side to the wire in a 33-38 loss. They travel to Diss to play a previously postponed fixture.

AJ Morgan has named a talented side, littered with Bury St Edmunds youth talent with big futures ahead of them. This will definitely be a brilliant fixture.
The Men’s 3rd XV makes up the final senior fixture this weekend as they face Cottenham Renegades away. They have been playing some brilliant rugby recently so look to implement that this Saturday.

Coach, Scott Rannochan has named an experienced side ready for battle against the Renegades.

We have a big weekend in the minis section this weekend with all ages from U7-U12 all hosting Woodbridge at The Haberden. However, one of our U11 sides travel to Wymondham for an exciting fixture. We wish them all good luck!

Once again, we have a full weekend of rugby. As usual, you can find all the full squads on the club’s social media channels.
