Round 24 | 11/03/2023 + Press Preview

Will Affleck10 Mar 2023 - 14:30

A preview of the weekend's action for the #buryrugbyfamily.

“They have a lot to fight for, they are looking to confirm their place in the league and I fully expect them to do that.”
- Jacob Ford

Don't panic.
Rugby is a winter sport after all.

Unfortunately, the Rovers fixture v Clacton Kestrels has been called off but there is plenty more rugby to enjoy this weekend - snow or no snow.

On that metrological note, any fixture or training changes due to the weather will be communicated via the website for senior fixtures and directly via individuals across the Mini & Youth sections.

Either way, the Six Nations will be on in the clubhouse tomorrow and the gang will be serving up fish and chips too.

Read a preview of tomorrow's Men's 1st XV fixture v Canterbury by Russell Claydon from Suffolk News, here. You'll also find more reaction from last week's strong victory over Rochford Hundred and the thoughts of Jacob Ford going into another important fixture tomorrow.

Tomorrow marks the start of - by far - the biggest run of games for our Men's 1st XV this season. Following the tough trip to the South East, we welcome Blackheath, Barnes and Old Albanians to The Haberden for 3 fixtures that will undoubtedly define the Wolfpack's season.

Foxes Preview by Alex Rowles
The Foxes will be playing their final home game of the 2022/23 season at the Greene King IPA Haberden on Sunday, March 12th.

Currently, the Foxes are one place ahead of Hitchin in the league table, but the latter has a game in hand, which makes this game all the more important for both teams. It's sure to be an exciting encounter, as the Foxes and Hitchin have always had tight results against each other.

The coaches for the Foxes have had a difficult selection headache this week, with many players returning to the squad. This means that the Foxes will field a strong side for the game, including the return of the dynamic half-back pair Georgie and Georgia, who will be looking to control the game and lead their team to victory.

The Foxes will be hoping to end their home season on a high and maintain their position in the league table. A win against Hitchin will undoubtedly be a confidence booster for the Foxes as they head toward their last game of the season in April.

If you're a fan of rugby, you don't want to miss this game. It's set to be a thrilling encounter that could go either way. So head down to the Haberden on Sunday and support the Foxes as they take on Hitchin in what promises to be an exciting match.

The Men's 2nd XV will have been buoyed by a much stronger performance against runaway league champions, Saffron Walden, last weekend. Their regular league season finishes with a trip to the Suffolk Coast to face Southwold tomorrow before their attention turns to the Suffolk Cup next weekend.

The 2's will be pleased to see the return of the instrumental Ewan Evans to the line-up tomorrow and will be hoping that he can contribute to a winning finish.

Looking out of the window today, it seems ludicrous to think that the return of this fixture - the opening game of the season - was played in glorious sunshine on pitch 4 at The Haberden, as this was the only pitch that was playable after the dry summer. Whilst the weather may be different tomorrow, the Bury Boys will be hoping to replicate a similar scoreline from that day where they ran out comfortable winners. That said, Southwold sit one place above Bury with a game in hand and have enjoyed a solid season since then.

The Wolves will finish their season with a friendly at Saffron Walden tomorrow. Squad news is to follow later.

All travelling support would be welcome.

You can see all of the scheduled training and fixtures across the Mini and Youth sections, here. Please keep your eyes peeled for any communications with regard to the pitches and weather.

Come On Bury!
