Following another weekend full of fixtures for most of our teams and sections, we have another action-packed weekend for all the Bury Rugby supporters to look forward to. We have a great selection of rugby on this weekend with four senior sides in action, with three featuring at The Haberden. Alongside this, the U18 Boys Colts kickstart their National Colts Cup Campaign at The Haberden.
Our U13’s (x2), 14s and 15s all have exciting friendlies on Sunday against local sides Ipswich RFC, Woodbridge RFC A, and two Southwold RFC sides respectively.
The Colts look to continue their ongoing success last season in the Cup with an explosive start to Round 1 against Cambridge. Keep an eye out on the website for updates to Round 1 of this exciting National Colts Cup, or head down to The Haberden on Sunday at 1pm to see the class of 2024 start their own story.

The U16’s enjoy a rest weekend from fixtures following the cancellation of their Suffolk 10s tournament due to be played at Royal Hospital School. However, this has been replaced with a training session.
The Men’s 1st XV will be looking to avenge the last few nail bitingly close fixtures seeing them gain bonus point losses, as they face newly promoted Oxford Harlequins in the first home game of the season. The relatively new squad bursting with top-quality talent will be looking to put on a stellar performance in front of the huge home support. Oxford currently sit 12th in National League 2 East yet to win a game, after being welcomed into the league against two tough sides in Barnes and Old Albanians.
Jacob Ford has made four changes from his starting squad against Henley Hawks. There has been a complete switch up in the front row with Paddy Robinson and Calvin Mitchell coming in to replace Iain Carmichael and Ben Cooper and in the backs Ben Penfold and Will Metcalfe come into the starting line-up.
Our thanks to Steve Lumley Planing Ltd, who are tomorrow's Match Day Sponsor.
Please also look out for Wooden Spoon who are tomorrow's Match Day Charity Partner and give generously to this brilliant cause.
On Sunday, our Women's 1st XV welcome local rivals Shelford in their first home game of the season.
Head Coach, Liam Leeson, has previewed this fixture in his programme piece.
"Welcome back to The Haberden, this is our first fixture at home this season, following last week’s away victory at newcomers Cannock Lionesses and we look forward to welcoming our close rivals from Shelford. We love playing at home, and with the recent improvements to the women’s facilities at The Haberden, there has never been a better time to play at BSE.
This season sees the women’s section continue in its development, I am in my second year as head coach, and I am delighted to be joined by Tyler Russell as assistant coach, and with the support of Lynne Bowman (et al) as our match-day sports therapist. We’ve welcomed a number of new players to the team, including some join us from local teams to challenge themselves in a more competitive environment, such as Ellie and Bee from Diss, and Lauren from Ipswich, three Eastern Counties standard players. We are also lucky to have some returning players, such as Sophia John from Thurrock (Championship 1 South Winners 23/24). The quality of player joining the club is testament to the culture of this group, and ambition of the section.
Welcome Shelford, to The Haberden. Shelford have similarly bolstered their squad, including the talented Lizell Heather also coming from Thurrock. We know every fixture between our two clubs is always a competition, and as such is a fantastic day out for any spectator, neutral or otherwise."
The Men’s 2nd XV travel to Essex to face Saffron Waldon as they look to secure their first win of the season after narrowly losing last weekend by 3 points. Like the 1’s, the 2nd XV has come out with very impressive performances despite not winning a game yet as they scored 34 points last game, but it wasn’t enough to get over the final game line.
AJ Morgan has made six changes to the side that faced Ely last weekend with several new Bury St Edmunds signings Dan Donavon and Trystan Andrews featuring in a youthful 2nd XV. Elsewhere, Josh Reavis comes into the front row with Ben Hewett completing the changes in the forwards. In the backs Stu Turner and George Howard continue their half-back partnership and Nicky Van de Linde, Connor Roberts and Billy Reid come in at centre, winger and fullback respectively.
The Men’s 3rd XV welcome Haverhill & District as they look to continue their winnings ways after beating Mildenhall & Red Lodge last weekend. The team is full of changes with a selection of players being promoted to the 2's and some regular players unavailable but are pleased to see club stalwart, Nick Tuffs returning at 15.
In the Minis Section, our U6’s, 7’s, 8’s, 9’s, 10’s, 11’s & 12’s will all be partaking in the halftime showcase and Guard of Honour during the Men’s 1’s home fixture this Saturday. We hope all of the mini-section have a great day.
Another weekend full of rugby & big home fixtures to boot.
Come on Bury!
