Following a frustrating weekend of results for most of our senior sides, the age grades shone brightly. Bury Rugby supporters can look forward to another action-packed weekend at The Haberden.
We have a fantastic selection of rugby this weekend, with three senior sides in action, two of which will be playing at The Haberden. Make sure to join us at 3pm on Saturday to watch the Men’s 1st XV in a derby day fixture against Colchester, with local bragging rights at stake.
Our boys' U13s, U14s, U15s, and U16s all have exciting away fixtures against their respective Wymondham counterparts. Meanwhile, it's time for our U12 girls to take part in the “Love Rugby Festival”, celebrating women’s and girls’ rugby. Additionally, the boys' U13s, U14s, U15s, and U16s will form the ball boy squad for the Men’s 1st XV fixture.
The Colts have a rest week ahead of a big festival next weekend at Stowmarket RUFC.
The Men’s 1st XV are determined to bounce back after last week’s frustrating match against Dorking, where second-half errors saw the game slip away. This weekend’s fixture is especially exciting, as we welcome local rivals Colchester RFC to The Haberden for the first time since their promotion to National League 2 East. Be sure to come down to The Haberden for 3pm and show your support for the Bury boys!
Chairman Craig Germeney previewed the fixture in his comments during this week’s training sessions:
“You may recognise several familiar faces among the Colchester players and coaching staff, many of whom have proudly worn the Bury kit in previous seasons. However, I’m sure that everyone in the Colchester camp will be eager to secure their first win of the season—and to do so at The Haberden.
Colchester earned promotion to National 2 East after a stellar campaign last year, and while they have yet to record a victory this season, our boys have only secured one win from four, so nothing can be taken for granted.”
Jacob Ford has made four changes to the squad, with Iain Carmichael starting at prop. There’s a reshuffle in the back row, as Henri Lavin comes in at blindside flanker, Ruaridh Williams moves to number 8, and Will Metcalfe and Euan Rees join the backline.
Our thanks go to this week’s Match Day Sponsor, Eastern Forklift Trucks Ltd, and our Match Day Charity Partner, Cancer Research UK (RELAY FOR LIFE).
The Women’s 1st XV are heading to London to face Old Albanians Saints away, after last week’s Papa Johns Cup fixture against Ipswich was cancelled. Head Coach Liam Leeson has named a strong side, with several key players set to make an impact. However, they will be without Katie Rannochan, who has been selected for the Scotland U20s pathway. Huge congratulations to her!
The Men’s 2nd XV have a rest week after a tough 24-31 loss against an impressive Diss RFC side last weekend at The Haberden.
The Men’s 3rd XV will be eager to avenge last weekend’s defeat as they welcome Shelford 3rd XV to The Haberden. The 3rd XV squad sees a complete overhaul this week with 14 changes, with club stalwart Nick Tuffs the only remaining starter.
The Men’s 4th XV are keen to return to action after last week’s postponement, but they will have another rest weekend.
We have a big weekend for our Minis section, with our U7s, U8s, U9s, U10s, U11s, and U12s all competing in the Bury Festival on Sunday. We wish them the best of luck! The U12s will also be providing the half-time entertainment for the Men’s 1st XV fixture with a special half-time showcase.
Another weekend full of rugby and exciting home fixtures awaits!
Arrive early - it's going to be busy. Bring your club colours, bring the noise and come on, Bury!
