Tim Hutton | 1958 - 2024

Will Affleck26 Jul 2024 - 11:20

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of former 1st XV Captain, Tim Hutton.

Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club has lost another of our own, as we say goodbye to Tim Hutton, who has passed away aged 66.

Tim was 1st XV Captain of our club in the 80's and will be equally known to many from his role as a PE Teacher at County Upper High School.

Tim was a larger than life character - everywhere he went. Many current members will have known him well and will share in our sadness.

Tim's funeral was held on Wednesday 24th of July and our thoughts are with his wife, Deborah, his family and his friends. We also extend our thoughts to all at Deepings Rugby Club, where Tim also had a very profound effect.

Tim will always be a member of the Bury Rugby Family and will be sorely missed by many at Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club.

In addition to our own obituary, it seemed fitting to share tributes from Tim's wife, Deborah and from his friends at Deeping Rugby Club.

Over the course of his life Tim, of course, had many roles: those as father, husband, teacher, mentor, friend and sportsman. In each, he showed the qualities that made him special to so many of us...good humour, absolute professionalism and the highest standards of sportsmanship. He was unreservedly generous with his time, willing to offer support to all of those that knew him, whenever they needed it. I know he would have been deeply moved by the amount of tributes that have already been made since his passing and the love and care expressed towards his family. It is a testament to the man that he was and the legacy he leaves behind. ~ Deborah Hutton

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Tim Hutton, a man who left an indelible mark on our lives and our club. Tim joined us at the start of the 1990/91 season as a highly accomplished tight head prop. With Tim in the scrum, we always had a solid foundation. His extensive knowledge of the game and his all-around skill set made him an invaluable team member and an exceptional skipper.

After his playing career ended, Tim continued to contribute to our club as a coach. His experience and dedication enriched all the players he worked with. Even after stepping back from coaching, Tim remained a steadfast supporter of the club, both as a spectator and as a parent. His presence and passion for the game will be deeply missed by many members of the club.

Tim Hutton was more than just a rugby player or a coach; he was a mentor, a friend, and a true pillar of our community. His legacy will continue to inspire us, and his memory will live on in our hearts. Rest in peace, Tim. ~ Deepings Rugby Club

May he rest in peace.
