The squad were at Woodbridge for a development festival where our team were in a pool to play 4 matches.
The first game against Sudbury was one sided with Bury boys ploughing through the opposition, with Max Harding tackled into touch one metre from the try line quickly followed by a try from Sam McLoughlin. Fearless tackling from Gregor Stewart helped keep the ball in the oppositions half and there was smart passing to Adam Walker who scored the 2nd try. Bury kept the pressure on in the second half with further tries from McLoughlin and Walker taking the final score to 20-0.
The second match against Ipswich YM was a hard fought battle as Bury found themselves playing a very well organised Ipswich squad whose strength pushed them to the first try of the game. Bury defended strongly and a quick pass from Archie Harris to Harvey Williams resulted in Bury taking the score to 1-1 at half-time. Close quarter skirmishes amongst the forwards made for a very close 2nd half but Ipswich pushed hard and gained a 2nd try to end this battle of a match victorious at 10 - 5.
The squads 3rd match against Chelmsford saw our team dominate once again with 2 first half tries courtesy of Max Derbyshire with great support from Paddy Mountford. This form continued through the second half with strong runs from Thomas Peacock and Fergus Vickery keeping the pressure on before Derbyshire made it a hat-trick to end the match on 15-0.
Bury had to win the 4th match for a chance to play in the Plate final and the match against Lowestoft started with even pressure from both sides. As the team settled into the game a breakaway run saw Thomas Peacock power through the opposition to score 2 tries in quick succession. Bury soon got on the scoresheet again as accurate passing from Harvey Hempstead and Nicholas Cardozo to Harvey Williams saw him score 2 tries quickly followed by a try from both Harvey Hempstead and James Ross giving a final score of 30 - 0
The Plate Final saw Bury make a strong start against the host side Woodbridge with Thomas Peacock making an impressive run to score the first try in the first minute of the game. The remainder of the half was closely fought with Bury pressuring the opposition to hold the score at 1-0 at half time. Bury kept much of the possession in the 2nd half with a try coming from a good set piece with Harvey Williams crashing through the opposition at pace to score the 2nd and final try of this game. The team left this development festival as victorious runners-up having won the Plate Final 10-0.
