The Bury Under 11 boys travelled to Old Buckenham Hall for a Sevens tournament against local public schools and rugby clubs.
With the wind trying to blow everybody everywhere the boys had to battle the weather before even facing their rugby opponents. We started the day with a match against Ipswich YM. The boys went in strong from the start running into the early morning Winter sun. By the end of the match there were 5 tries on the scoreboard for Bury with Harvey Hempstead converting 4. With Ipswich YM scoring 3 tries and 2 conversions the final score was 33-19.
The second match of the day saw Bury up against the home team; OBH. Bury again went in strong with tries from Hempstead, Cardozo, Derbyshire, Williams and Walker with 4 converted. The final result of the match was Bury 33-0.
In the third pool game was against Finborough school. The boys from Finborough put in a valiant fight and stayed strong throughout but with 7 tries from the Bury boys they faced a hard fight. With Thomas Peacock at one point making 2 tries that he then had to run to convert before then kicking off the restart. Another member of a multi-talented team. The final score was 49-0.
This put Bury into the cup semi-finals. Bury came across another school; Dame Bradbury. This was a well-trained team who caught Bury napping in the early stage and went on to score 3 converted tries with just one converted Williams try. Despite the strong rallying response of the Bury Under 11 team they were unable to fight back against the Dame Bradbury team. This finished the day for the Bury boys. For all this was their first experience of Sevens rugby as a team and they thoroughly enjoyed and learned from the experience.
