The conditions were great today and although we were a little slow to start, we quickly all stepped up and it was great to see so much commitment from all of the players.
To recap on the games, we played 3 x 24 min games and what was fantastic was that so many different boys scored from forwards to backs, showing everyone got involved.
Apologies but with ref'ing I cannot remember all of the scorers so apologies if I have made a mistake
Game 1 vs Stowmarket
It was certainly interesting to see some new interpretation of the U12 rules from the Stowmarket ref and this clearly helped them to a 5:0 half time lead!
With a change to the ref at half time and a more balanced approach to the game the Wolves started to get into their stride putting some excellent contact skills into practice. By contrast there was a single score to the half and this went to the Wolves
Chelmsford 25: Wolves 5 scorer Seb (1)
Game 2 vs Norwich
Norwich had some huge players and they had a very simple game plan of give it to the big lads and let them run. However the Wolves physicality was equal and turned over the ball a number of times. This created space for our backs to exploit at ease. With this being no more than a training game it did help the Wolves with their 2 man tackles and their rucking practice. As good session for all the boys.
Norwich 5 : Wolves 35 scorers: Connor Chacksfield (2), Archie Cansdale (1), Will Spark (1) & Seb (3)
Game 3 vs Diss
Diss only had 8 players so we asked Sol, Archie M and Seb to play for them. The majority of the Diss boys were new to rugby and they had not won a game this season so they really appreciated the Wolves players helping them.
This was the best game of rugby from the Wolves all morning. The tackling was excellent, the teamwork and positioning in attack and defence superb.
All of the things we have been coaching over the past few weeks about body position in contact and passing before being tackled you put into practice. So well done.
Although Diss "won" 5 out of the 7 tries were scored by Wolves so let's say well done and this will help Diss grow in confidence - we were all in this position at some time!
Diss 35 : Wolves 20 scorers for Diss Sol Moody (2) & Seb (3) and scorers for Wolves Connor Chacksfield (1), Fin Osgood (1) & Adam Harwood Hughes (2)
What we were really pleased about today from the coaching perspective was that everyone was up for the contest, so well done and a great team effort from the Wolves.
Players of the Weeks
Tackle of the week: Archie Murrell who turned up and put in some massive hits in the Norwich game
Support player of the week: Will Spark for always being there and a special note to his counter ruck which drove a number of players off the ball, great body position and driving low and hard.
Newmarket at home 4th December
We have a match against Newmarket at home next week.
Again well done and this was one of the best team performances that we have seen from the Wolves all season. The commitment from everyone was outstanding and you all gave it 100% and more.
Well done to Archie Cansdale for scoring his first try this season.
