Match report - Matt Cameron
The Boys in this squad played four games, winning 2, drawing 1 and losing 1 - the loss being only to their teammates from Bury St Edmunds!
Their first games was against a strong Ipswich B team that started strongly. The pressure led to their opening try that was quickly cancelled out before Ipswich returned with1 try either side of half-time to go into a two try lead. However three unanswered tries from Bury left the final score 20 - 15.

The second game was against Stowmarket B, a team that had a number of large runners. Their tight straight running left a half-time score of 0 - 15.A stronger defensive performance in the second half, returned a final score of 20 - 15.

Those 2 victories left Bury top of its qualifying group, and through to the Cup competition group to face Ipswich C & Bury White.

The game against Ipswich produced another slow start, with the boys finishing the first half 2 tries to 0 down. However once more a better defensive effort and an improvement in lines and speed of attack produced 3 tries, which looked to be the result until a breakaway try at the end allowed Ipswich to draw level with the last play.

Bury Reds opened the scoring in their final match, against their team-mates in Bury Whites. However the Whites were better able to run with the ball, and exploited some defensive frailties to come out as winners 6 tries to 2.

In what is a new format for many players, especially being played on a full pitch the team produced an impressive performance. The importance of supporting each other, first-time tackling and positive running lines is clear in this format of the game; lessons that should be valuable for full-team rugby.
