Bury Saints welcomed a well drilled Stowmarket side and set about containing a big pack of forwards. Good tackling from both sides prevented any score in the first half. At the break Saints strengthened their forwards and began to dominate play with rolling mauls, from one of these Stephen Snook picked up a loose ball passed to scrum half Harry Wicks who scored the first try. Joseph Rainford converted. Further attacks on the Stowmarket line resulted in another Wicks break from a scrum beating several tackles to score the second try. Rainford converted.

Saints faced a prep school side from Surrey on tour who were clearly used to playing together. Saints put up a great defensive display and held their line to half time. In the second half Saints were caught out by a quickly taken free kick which allowed Walstead to score. Saints increased pressure forced play back into the opposition half and a kick into their 22 saw Oliver Brindley dash over for the equaliser.
