On Sunday Bury came up just short against a very good Beccles team. Both sides started off at 100mph with determined running being met with strong defence on both sides. Both teams looked to play an expansive game with some attractive rugby being on show. Beccles opened the scoring after Bury failed to clear their lines and uncharacteristicay left a ruck unguarded for Beccles to score and convert. Bury pressed hard for a response with some good moves in midfield, in particular a lovely dummy scissors involving Lucas Seaman which almost put him through, but it wasn’t until shortly before half time that after good quick ruck ball from the forwards Josh Bullingham found himself in some space and broke through to score. At half time Bury were 7-5down.

The second half saw Bury strive for the break through. The larger Beccles pack started to assert its dominance and Bury found themselves having a difficult time at the scrum and struggling a little for possession. Towards the end of the match Beccles managed to score two close range tries to take the score to 17.5. Bury continued to push right to the end but could not break through a well organised Beccles defence again. There was some excellent defence on show throughout the day and some great rucking from all the pack, and some great defence out wide by Alex VDP and James Torbitt in the backline, Tackle of he day went to Josh Barnes who chopped tackled a large Beccles Forward running at full pace saving a certain try, great technique and nerve shown from a boy who certainly isn't the biggest individual on the pitch... Charlie Upright was selected by the Beccles players as the Bury man of the match for some great runs and tackling from full back. Beccles were deserved winners of a very tough contest, but were very complimentary about our rucking and defence.
