Bury played with the wind at their backs in the first half. The first 5 minutes saw both teams feel each other out, before Bury recorded the first score after some good works from the forwards saw Bully break through to record a well deserved try. The Bury pack raised their game particularly at the ruck where the good recent work in training began to pay off, with the forwards getting to the rucks faster and hitting the rucks much harder. That created a lot of front foot ball for the backs who exploited the space out wide with Lucas, Rhys PJ and Alex getting plenty of opportunity to run with the ball. Charlie Upright attacked at every point from full back, the end result being tries for Josh Bullingham, Charlie, Rhys, from the backs and Josh and Ryan for the forwards who looked dangerous with their pick and go game.
The second half saw further tries from Bully, who chased through a grubber, and took an up and under in dramatic fashion to score under the posts. Alex, Rhys, and George also scored well deserved tries. Stuey kicked 5 conversions, with Ryan and big Jack weighing in at the end of our best performance of the season. Throughout the game there were some stand out performances, Marty playing well upfront, Kane reveling in his new role as flanker, as well as all of the lads having a good run out. I have felt that we have played well in patches this season but this was the first time we have really put in a full 60 minute performance. The forwards created good quick ball for the backs, and the backs moved the ball wide where we looked dangerous all day.
Credit to the Wymondham lads who never gave up and scored a well worked try early in the second half. The final score was pretty harsh on them, it was just one of those days where everything we tried seemed to come off for us. Thank you also to the Wymondham coaches for reffing and good luck to them in their county cup fixture this weekend. Josh Bullingham, with a fantastic display of powerful back's running showing great vision and teamwork was our man of the match.
