Bury took on Swaffham at their patch on another windy Sunday. The pitch was in good condition considering the rain we have had recently. Bury played in to the wind in the first half. There was not a lot between the two teams in the first 10 minutes. There was solid defence from both teams. Bury kept trying to move the ball in to the wide channels and eventually after some good pressure Josh W off loaded to Alex who was able to finish in the corner.
Bury kept the pressure up with some great work in the loose by big Jack and James T turning up everywhere, while in midfield Bully and Lucas kept probing for the gaps. Eventually we worked it wide in to space and Rhys PJ screamed down the touch line and touched down under the posts with Stu adding the conversion. Then Rhys struck again after more good rucking by the forwards allowed the backs to move the ball out wide for Rhys to score, making it 0-17 at half time.
In the second half we managed to dominate but only after a brilliant try saving tackle by Reid, followed by furious defence to clear our lines. We weathered the storm and then scored through Ryan with Stu converting. Archie then smashed his way over with Bully converting before Rhys PJ scored an end to end try, collecting the ball under our posts and running the length of the pitch to score under their posts, Bully converting. Swaffham then scored a well deserved try before James T scored a try on his comeback, Bully converting. Bully then scored a great individual try to finish the game.
It was a good performance and great to give everyone plenty of game time. We tried a few players in different positions which is always interesting so thank you to those lads. Thanks also to Bob who volunteered to play for a Swaffham. The score in the end was pretty hard on Swaffham who never gave up and were a physical challenge up front. The fact that we had a lot of subs probably told in the second half when Swaffham tired a bit.
Thanks to a Swaffham for hosting a really good game and best of luck to them for the rest of the season.
