BURY ST EDMUNDS SAINTS O NEWMARKET 10
Saints were slow to respond to early pressure from a strong Newmarket side and allowed play to take place in their half. A blind side run from a scrum let their scrum half make the first score. A kick up field was followed up by Newmarket backs who scored the second try.
BURY ST EDMUNDS SAINTS 5 SUDBURY 0
Another tight contest against a well drilled side with both teams mounting attacks but not able to cross the try line. With no score at half time, Saints began to string together some piercing runs with the ball moving to the wings. With strong forward support a kick into Sudbury’s 22 was collected by Jake Swinburn who passed to Harry Haydon who found Oliver Brindley to score the best try of the pool.
BURY ST EDMUNDS SAINTS 5 IPSWICH 5
Saints forwards dominated this game making several rolling mauls up field and allowing the backs to get the ball to the wings. Ipswich responded well and were first to score with a maul over the try line. After several attacking runs Harry Haydon glided through the mid field, broke three tackles and scored the equalising try.
BURY ST EDMUND SAINTS 15 ELY 0
In their last game of the pool Bury Saints put together a fine display of team rugby. Strong scrummaging gave the half backs room to move and Jake Swinburn set up Harry Haydon for the first try in the corner. Further pressure from the forwards resulted in a ruck on Ely’s line and a try for Alec Kemp- Smith. Again a quick heel from a scrum saw Harry Wicks find Harry Haydon who ran through three defenders to score.
BURY ST EDMUNDS SAINTS 5 WOODBRIDGE 0
As runners-up in Pool B, Saints contested the Plate final against Woodbridge.
Saints forwards provided good possession releasing some quick attacking moves.
