Bury U8's Victorious at North Walsham Festival

Bury U-8 won their age group in the N Walsham festival with a committed team performance played at pace in which everyone played their part and showed enthusiasm and focus from start to finish.

In their first against Southwold the opposition scored the first and last tries with seven tries from Bury giving them victory. Bury started slowly but as they got into the game with two tries from Harvey Williams and two from Max Derbyshire. Bury’s defensive pressure allowed them to control the game and tries from Ellis Killbane, Paddy Mountford and Thomas Peacock completed the scoring.

Against Holt Bury were firing on all cylinders and won 8-1. Max scored from the first move of the game as Holt struggled to cope with his pace, and then aided by Paddy his defence kept the up pressure on Holt. George Barker won turnover from a Holt mistake to set up Harvey Williams for a score, before Harvey set up George for his first try, and then George again set up Harvey for a score to give Bury a 4-0 half time lead. In the second half two more tries for George and fast handling and great support from Bury runners gave Oliver Thompson and Paddy tries as Bury looked dangerous whenever they were in possession.

The last pool match against Wymondham was competitive to the end. Bury made fewer errors than the opposition, and took their opportunities looking dangerous every time they had the ball. Wymondham quickly went 1-0 into the lead. Bury fought back hard and great running and support gave Harvey Hempstead a try and Paddy scored with a great run from his own half. Wymondham levelled the score. Bury kept looking dangerous in attack and made the most of every opportunity, tries from Max and both Harveys gave Bury a 5-3 half time lead in this close and competitive game where both teams had the skill to capitalise on small errors to score.

After half time Bury improved their game, and great defensive pressure from James Ross, Max and George exerted control over the game. Two tries from Max, and tries from Thomas, Harvey Williams, Paddy and George closed the game out at 11-5.

In the final Bury were against a tough and competitive West Norfolk side. Bury were very focussed kept up a high work rate. Defensive pressure from the whole side forced turnovers, and great running and support play gave George two tries and Harvey Williams one for a hard fought 3-0 lead. Norfolk quickly fought back with two tries and a try from Oliver steadied the Bury nerves at half time.

In the second half Bury commitment and fitness helped them to work at pace and control the game. Nicholas Cardozio scored from his own half, Oliver and Paddy worked a great crash ball for a try for Paddy and George completed the scoring to give Bury a 7-3 lead.
