With over half of the Bury squad playing in their first Festival this was always going to be a tough day’s rugby.
Bury took a couple of matches to find their feet, losing 10-7 to a fast Wendens Ambo side and then 6-3 to Shelford B. Tries for Charlotte Peacock, Oliver Rowe and Barnaby Green and a hat trick from Gregor Stewart ensured the opposition didn’t have it all their own way, but poor tagging was Burys downfall.
A transformed Bury team lead by captain James “Pocket Rocket” Legrand took control of their next game against Ely. Tries for William Pickersgill, Thor Mager, James and a superb solo effort from Justin Coleman gave Bury the edge. A further try from George Farmer gave Bury a well deserved 5-3 victory. George was unlucky to not score again, receiving a black eye for his efforts just short of the line.
A confident Bury side took on Shelford A in their last fixture. Brilliant tagging and positional play by Owen Jones and Tom Edgar helped Bury keep a strong Shelford side under pressure. Tries from The Pocket Rocket, Thor, Gregor, Oliver and William helped Bury to a 5-4 victory and fifth position overall.
